    The pulsating sounds of analogue synths, and the grit of old samples abound everywhere in music these days.

    It wasn't that long ago that disco reigned, and when it fell out of favor in the US, DJs, and pioneering musicians created new sounds to fill the dance floor.

    This electronic music diverged in multiple directions: creating rap, trance, house, film soundtracks, and influencing the shape of pop.

    Once, all it took was a couple LP records, a drum machine, and some synthesizers to create a bold new world of sound.

    Now, it is possible with a laptop, and some cellphones to make music
