Iconic photographer David Gahr took this photo of mouth harpist Butterfield and a portion of his Blues Band in full flight at a 1965 Newport Folk Festival workshop. Folklorist Alan Lomax duked it out with Butterfield's manager, Al Grossman, as to whether white boys should play and sing the blues.
