Basik

Basik is an emcee from the Southside of Chicago. Like the city he represents, his music spans a range of geographic, cultural, social and political influences. His music incorporates an eclectic mix of house, soul, jazz, dance hall, and hip hop from the south, west and east, fusing it all into a sound that is distinct to his hometown of Chicago. As a member of the performing arts ensemble Kuumba Lynx, Basik performed at venues all over the United States, as well as the Caribbean and Africa. He has also worked as metro editor for New Expression magazine, a position that led to work as a reporter and correspondent at the Chicago Sun Times. He attended New School University in New York City and graduated in 2008 with a bachelors degree, double major in Education Studies and Literature. While in college he formed a band with Jazz musicians from the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, and performed with up and coming neo soul sensations Jessie Boykins III and Chris Turner. He currently lives in Chicago where he continues to perform regularly.
